What Affects Your Rate?

  • Container Size & Type

Choice between 20ft, 40ft, High Cube, or specialized equipment like Reefers or Flat Racks.

  • Origin & Destination

Distance and route complexity between European ports (e.g., Rotterdam, Hamburg) and US ports (e.g., NY/NJ, LA/LB).

  • Seasonality

Rates fluctuate based on global demand, peak seasons, and fuel surcharges (BAF).

  • Incoterms

Terms of sale (e.g., FOB, EXW, DDP) determine responsibility for costs and risk.

Common Questions

What is the transit time from Europe to the USA?

Transit times vary by route and service. Typically, it takes 10-20 days for East Coast arrivals and 25-35 days for West Coast arrivals from major European ports.

Should I choose FCL or LCL?

If you have enough cargo to fill a container (approx. 33 CBM for 20ft, 67 CBM for 40ft), FCL is usually more economical and faster. For smaller volumes, LCL is the better choice.

Do you offer door-to-door service?

Yes, we handle the entire logistics chain: pickup in Europe, ocean freight, US customs clearance, and final delivery to your warehouse or facility.

How do I track my sea freight shipment?

We provide real-time tracking for all shipments. You will receive updates on container status, vessel location, and estimated arrival times.

What are the dimensions and weight limits for containers?

A 20ft container holds up to 33 CBM and 28,000 kg (max payload ~21,000 kg). A 40ft container holds 67 CBM and can carry up to 26,000 kg of cargo. 40ft High Cube containers offer an extra foot of height, ideal for lightweight, bulky goods.

What are demurrage and detention fees?

Demurrage is charged when your container sits at the port beyond the free time (typically 3-5 days). Detention applies when you keep the container beyond the allowed period after pickup. Both can cost $75-150 per day. We help you avoid these by coordinating timely pickups.

Do I need marine cargo insurance?

While not mandatory, we highly recommend it. Carrier liability is limited to around $500 per container. Marine cargo insurance typically costs 0.2-0.5% of cargo value and covers loss, damage, and general average contributions.

What happens if there are port delays or congestion?

Port congestion can add days or weeks to transit times, especially at major US ports. We monitor vessel schedules closely and provide proactive updates. If delays occur, we work to minimize impact and explore alternative routing when possible.

When do I need to file ISF (Importer Security Filing)?

ISF must be filed at least 24 hours before cargo is loaded onto the vessel at the origin port. Late or inaccurate ISF filings can result in $5,000 fines and cargo holds. We handle ISF filing as part of our service to ensure compliance.

What is a Bill of Lading and why is it important?

The Bill of Lading (BOL) is your contract of carriage and proof of ownership. You need the original BOL to claim your cargo at destination. We provide both the Master BOL (carrier-issued) and House BOL (forwarder-issued) for your records.

How can I prevent moisture damage in containers?

Container condensation can damage cargo during ocean transit. Use desiccant bags, moisture barriers, and proper ventilation. For sensitive goods, consider climate-controlled containers. We can advise on the best protection for your specific cargo.

Can I change the destination port after booking?

Changes are possible but depend on timing and the carrier. If the vessel hasn't departed, changes are easier but may incur fees. After departure, rerouting is complex and expensive. Contact us immediately if you need to make changes.

How does LCL consolidation work?

With LCL, your cargo shares container space with other shippers. We consolidate shipments at origin, transport via ocean freight, and deconsolidate at destination. This takes longer than FCL (add 3-7 days for consolidation/deconsolidation) but is cost-effective for smaller volumes.

How far in advance should I book sea freight?

For standard FCL shipments, book 1-2 weeks in advance. During peak season (August-October) or for specialized equipment, book 3-4 weeks ahead. LCL requires less lead time but benefits from early booking to secure the best consolidation schedules.
